As most of my patients know, I have performing non-extraction orthodontics on my patients for many years. The reason being that the outcomes are far superior to that of four bicuspid extractions.
Years back, it used to be common to remove four first bicuspids to "Make Room" for crowding. The only problem was that by the time all the spaces had been closed, the face looked flatter in appearence-- noses looked larger and upper lip support was lost.
Today's modern orthodontic therapy has allowed us to alter the growth of the bone supporting the teeth, which makes room for teeth. The resulting smile makes the face look younger longer!
I usually advise evaluating children as early as age 5 for interceptive treatment. If caught early enough, the need for braces can be reduced and in some cases eliminated.
